Side effects of being a big kid. I am confidant, yet anxious about this new phase in my little man's life. Part of me doesn't want to believe it. It's absolute and irrefutable confirmation that Benton is growing up. He can pee standing up. He knows his ABCs and can count all the way to twelveteen. He's practically ready for college. Where has my little boy gone?! One the other hand, NO MORE BIG KID POOPY DIAPERS!!! Benton will tell anyone who will listen of his newly mastered skill. Just the other night, he accosted our friend Alicia: "I went potty in the toilet! Does that make you very happy?!" He hasn't quite mastered the pulling up of the pants or the putting on of the pants the right direction, but we're getting there. He now gets up in the middle of the night and goes potty (aided by his new "very special" night light) then tucks himself back in bed. Autonomy was the goal here, but now that he wants to go "all by myself," and sends me packing out of the bathroom with "can I have some privacy, Mom?" I'm a little sad. I guess I can just keep Nathaniel in diapers forever... OK maybe not.

Every time I hear the heavy sigh and, "Go out, please mom" as Emma wants privacy in the bathroom, I think, "Child, do you have any idea what I've done for you???!!" Of course they have no idea what we do for them! I guess we now know how our mom feels. -- Alysun

PS I am not quite sure how I feel that I was cropped out of 2 of the 3 photos above. I guess Ben needs his moment to shine.

Benton, Yes, it makes me very happy!! Great job buddy, you're such a big boy.

He definitely enjoys his new accomplishment, as I notice he went potty by himself at least 3 times in about 1 1/2 hours-time that night.

Yeah. Nika calls going poopie in the Potty "Big Pirate Poopie."
