Parade

The annual Festival of Lights Holiday Parade is a local tradition in which we have never participated. Before children, it seemed like a good idea to stay warm and dry indoors rather than brave the elements to take in a few twinkle lights. Now that we have kids, it must be time to set all comfort aside and brave the elements in order to take in a few twinkle lights.

Our friends Jon and Jess invited us along to watch the show and it seemed like a good idea at the time. Benton was very excited before we left the house, but when he realized it was already dark, he changed his mind. "I don't want to go anymore." Why not? "As soon as we get back, it will be time for bed. I don't want to go to bed."

The weather performed typically for a December eve in our neck of the woods--freezing cold with a light mist to keep us damp.

We stood and visited and passed Nathaniel back and forth-as he insisted on being held and he is outrageously heavy. Why didn't I buy an Ergo? The boys loved most of it though. The big time favorite were the bands. Nat was enthralled with the whole thing, Benton was ready to go until the next marching band came by.

All in all, it was a fun evening and one we will likely repeat in years to come. Provided rumored budget cuts don't cancel the entire event.

Meanwhile, am I the only one who started voluntarily putting myself in complicated and uncomfortable situations since I had kids? (Pictures of Zoo Lights in the rain, coming soon).
