HGTV Claims its newest victim

We game upon this handy device while scouring Ikea for bedroom re-do ideas. It seemed the perfect solution to a storage problem in the boys' room caused by a dresser swap. We got two and plan on hanging them from the ceiling on either side of the "new" dresser for little stuff like socks and shoes and stuffed things.
The day after the purchase, the boys were playing in their room while I did something important. I don't remember what. Benton came dashing out of his room saying, "Mom, you gotta see this!" Since this statement could mean anything from "I put all my animal is a row!" to "Nathaniel is unconscious," I dropped everything and ran after him.
Apparently I was not the only one who spent the entire week studying HGTV. Benton had removed the storage device from it's clever Ikea packaging and attached it from the hook where the curtain rod used to be (long story).
Full of pride at his accomplishment, he gave me a quick tour. "My animals are here, next is my Bob the Builder toys, then all my yuther animals, some race cars, me and Nathaniel's drinks (they were in spill proof cups), and, of course, my shoes." Of course. Then he pulled out the clever Ikea instructions and showed them to me.

"See. You can hang it from a bar or a hook or a loop, but the X means don't. So dont tie it or twist it."
I think we could all learn a lot from this lesson. Instructions make life so easy a four-year old can follow them. So, do you follow the instructions?

Way to go Benton! I usually try to put something together first and then in frustration check out the instructions. We got one of those from IKEA for Liam and they currently house his stuffies. Just the other day he informed me that one space was for his airplanes.

The boy is a genius. Think how far he will get in life as a man who isn't afraid to look at the directions first.

Those things look great. I would get one if there was actually room in any of our closets =)My husband NEVER reads the directions, it drives me CRAZY! Yeah, go Benton!

Benton is a very smart little boy. I usually try to do something before reading the directions because, well, I'm too smart for instructions. Then I go back after I've messed up the project and read the instructions and it's so much easier!

Yeah, one brilliant little boy, so how was I to know he couldn't discern a tease from a truth! someday he will be able to design a cage the monkey can't get out of.

Benton makes me laugh! I needed that today. Thanks, Benton, for never ceasing to amaze me. As for following instructions, I try to get Josiah to put stuff together for me because he's good at it, probably because he reads the directions!

NICE work Ben. Just last month, we failed to follow the very simple, picture directions on very large IKEA cabinet we bought for our office. Needless to say, it collapsed because we did not follow the directions, and Vance had to drive all the way back up to IKEA to exchange the broken parts and we started all over. We followed the directions after that!!
